March 8th, 2025 was International Women’s Day, and I had this post ready to go. But my inner mother said—”REST”. I listened and I have been listening more and more. Three years ago, I realized I had pushed my body beyond its limits. Burnt-out adrenals, over-serving in corporate spaces, a 9 month pandemic book launch, moving all over the country during the pandemic, and riding the relentless roller coaster of entrepreneurship. I gave everything to igniting consciousness in others. I have been a yogi and meditator since I was 19 years old and I engaged in daily well being and somatic releasing practices for many years, but at some point it wasn’t enough for how bright I was burning the candles on both ends.
Does this sound familiar women?
For 15 years, I spent 2-3 weeks a year in silent meditation retreat to refill the well, but it wasn’t enough for this body. My soul needed more REST.
Now, as I transition into midlife and menopause, my body refuses to be ignored. There is a voice inside me—fierce, wise, compassionate, and unshakably clear—and she is saying: No more. This is my Inner Mother speaking, and she is calling me to honor the sacred shift happening within me. My commitment is to honor this rebirth. In this new chapter and awakening, I am committed to empower the thriving of women in mid life to embrace this transition so they can reclaim themselves and lead in ways that serve the greater mother (Oh yes the Earth Mother).
Menopause as a Spiritual Rebirth
Menopause is not an ending. It is an initiation, a rising, a return to self. And in this sacred transition, parts of me are dying—old roles, outdated expectations, the relentless need to over give. I can either cling to them or surrender to what is being born in their place: a woman who honors herself fully, who moves from truth, who refuses to sacrifice her well-being for the comfort of others. Who will no longer repeat patterns that never worked before in relationship and in the work that I chose to do in the world.
I was bone and soul tired the past few years because of how bright I had been shining. My book is called Shine after all. There is a different radiance that is coming through that will have more positive impact with less effort. I share my authentic journey because we need the feminine to lead now more than ever, but she cannot lead if she is exhausted, depleted, and disconnected from herself. If we want a more rested world, a more conscious workplace (is that even possible when most companies don’t invest in conscious leadership development?), and a more compassionate and flourishing planet, we must first rest within ourselves.
Rest is Not Weakness—It is Power
The Outer Forces—patriarchy, capitalism, toxic (unconscious) leadership—keep us unrested. They have for thousands of years. When we are tired, overstimulated, and burnt out, we become easier to control, easier to silence, easier to break.
What happens when we rest? When we pause? When we listen to our own mothering voice?
🔥 We find our strength. 🔥 We reclaim our boundaries. 🔥 We speak up in protection of what we love.
A rested woman is dangerous to the systems that seek to keep her small.
How Do We Rest When the World is on Fire?
Rage. Grief. Fear. These emotions live in us, triggered by the world around us. But within each of us is an Inner Mother—a voice that says:
“You are safe. You are held. You will not be abandoned.”
Resting will often bring up feeling and sensations that you may have not wanted to be with, but it is needed. One of the most powerful ways to access this deep, nourishing, radical rest is through Yoga Nidra.
Yoga Nidra: A Portal to Inner Mothering
Yoga Nidra one of the many nurturing practices we can engage in to create a state of non-doing. Its not a substitute for sleep, but a profound state of rest that goes beyond the personal self. Non sleep deep rest (NSDR) is another word for this category, which has a lot of research conducted at Stanford’s University School of Integrative Medicine, where I taught on mindfulness and other contemplative practices to support wholeness and healing.
✨ Beyond Identity – A place where you rest in boundless awareness. ✨ Effortless Being – No striving, no pushing, just pure presence. ✨ Witnessing Consciousness – A space where the body sleeps, but awareness remains. ✨ A Gateway to Turiya (Pure Consciousness) – The deep feminine wisdom within.
My invitation to you: Find time each day to practice Yoga Nidra. Let it be your midwife, your sanctuary, your portal to the unconditional mother within—the part of you that does not hustle for worthiness but rests in the wholeness of your being.
The Future is Rested Women
The Inner Mother is waiting for you. She is whispering in every exhausted sigh, in every moment of depletion, in every longing for space and silence.
💫 I love myself just as I am. 💫 I am safe in my body. 💫 I am protected. 💫 I give myself permission to go after my dreams. 💫 I claim my YES and my NO. 💫 I forgive myself.
If we honored the unconditional mother within us, how would we lead differently? If our world leaders led from a place of deep rest and unconditional love, how much more connected, compassionate, and just would our world be?
Rise, Rested & Unshakable
This International Women’s Day, let’s not just celebrate what we do—let’s honor how we care for ourselves.
The transition into menopause isn’t about fading—it’s about rising.
It’s the initiation into wisdom, power, and sovereignty. A time when energy is no longer spent on pleasing others but on reclaiming yourself.
Rest is a radical act. Rest is resistance. Rest is the foundation of our rise.
I will be posting more on an integrative medicine and psychospiritual approach to midlife and menopause.
